In college soccer action Wednesday, Iona Gaels midfielder Jordan Scarlett scored a long-distance goal with some help from the opposing Fairfield Stags goalkeeper, who misplayed the shot off the crossbar and dropped the ball into his own net.
Scarlett's shot from way out bounced straight up into the air after hitting the crossbar, leaving Fairfield goalie Matt Turner waiting for the ball to come down. Unfortunately, Turner mistimed the catch when it finally did, as the ball went through his hands, off his chest, and into his own net.
Not an easy play by any means, but Turner will be having a few nightmares about that play. Iona won the game 3-1.
