Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning was called for a holding penalty during Sunday's game against the Washington Redskins.
How does a quarterback get a holding penalty, you may ask? By wrestling Redskins linebacker Brian Orakpo to the ground, of course. Wait, what?
It happened on the Broncos' opening drive of the third quarter as Manning was being rushed on 2nd and 12 from his own 29 yard line. Redskins linebacker Ryan Kerrigan knocked the ball out of Manning's hand, and Manning tackled Orakpo from behind as he chased the loose ball. Here's another angle of that play:
Orakpo still recovered the fumble (with Kerrigan getting credit for a sack), but Manning was called for the illegal hold, although the penalty was declined by the Redskins.
Despite the unusual play, Manning still had a good day overall, passing for 354 yards and 4 touchdowns in the 45-21 Broncos victory.
