Memphis Grizzlies shooting guard Tony Allen was ejected in the first quarter of Monday night's game against the Los Angeles Clippers for kicking Chris Paul in the face.
It happened as Paul was dribbling down the lane and Allen came over to help defend. Allen jumped in the air to block a shot while Paul kept dribbling. At that point Allen threw his left leg up and kicked Paul in the face, and it's not clear exactly why. Our best guess is that Allen's kick was a last-resort attempt to stop Paul from scoring.
Obviously Allen's play was against the rules, so he was given a straight Flagrant 2 and was kicked out of the game. However, the Grizzlies managed to win the game 106-102 despite Allen's ejection.
UPDATE: Allen has apologized to Paul via his Twitter feed, saying it was accidental.
1st thing 1st apologies 2 @CP3 accidental kick.....
