The Chicago Bears honored Hall of Fame tight end and Super Bowl champion coach Mike Ditka at halftime of Monday night's game against Dallas with a formal retirement ceremony for his number 89 jersey.
The fans showed their appreciation with a rousing cheer as Ditka was introduced for the ceremony, and the legendary coach was gracious and humble throughout the proceedings.
Ditka was also honored by Illinois governor Pat Quinn, who declared Monday "Mike Ditka Day", and a downtown Chicago skyscraper, which was lit up with the number 89.
