It turns out that the rant-heard-around-the-world by Seattle Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman after Sunday's NFC Championship game actually started a minute before he ran into Erin Andrews.
Deadspin has uncovered footage of Sherman's interview from FOX Deportes which gave him a chance to get himself warmed up for his interview with Andrews. Sherman was still excited from making the critical defensive play against San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Michael Crabtree to wrap up the game:
"Hey, you don't try the best corner in the league in the clutch, especially with no mediocre receiver like Crabtree. He's weak!"Interestingly enough, the interview wrapped up with Sherman signaling for Andrews to come on over, at which point he gave her a hug, which was more than a little awkward.
Our take: Sherman was excited about making the play and just trying to have a little fun. Unfortunately, Sherman went a bit over the top in the process and brought himself a little too much attention while taking it away from the team's accomplishment. We're sure Sherman has learned his lesson by now, so we're ready to move on and see how he does against Peyton Manning in Super Bowl XLVIII.
H/T NYDN.
