NASCAR Sprint Unlimited pace car catches fire at Daytona (Video)

The third and final segment of Saturday night's NASCAR Sprint Unlimited race at Daytona International Speedway began in unusual fashion when the pace car was forced to pull over after catching fire.

The Chevy SS pace car, driven by Brett Bodine, was leading the field of cars when smoke could be seen coming from the back of the car. As the car pulled off to the side of the track, smoke began to fill the inside of the car and a small flame began to shoot out of the trunk. Fortunately, Bodine and the passenger were able to get out of the vehicle unharmed, and fire personnel arrived quickly to put out the fire.

It was later reported that a battery pack in the trunk for the external safety lights had caught fire. However, according to the AP, Chevy has not confirmed this and is still assessing the cause.
