Detroit Red Wings center David Legwand was ejected in the third period of Thursday night's game for butt-ending Pittsburgh Penguins center Evgeni Malkin in the groin.
It happened with 3:46 left in regulation as Legwand and Malkin got into a scuffle near the Red Wings net. Just as things appeared to be over with the puck heading to the other end, Legwand tried to sneak in the low blow. Legwand did take Malkin down, but fortunately the official was right there to catch it. No question that was a cheap shot.
The Red Wings won the game 5-4 in overtime.
