Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Dion Phaneuf delivered a huge hit during the third period of Tuesday night's game against San Jose, but unfortunately it was on his own teammate.
Phaneuf was trying to knock Sharks center Patrick Marleau off the puck with an open ice hit. However, not only did he miss Marleau completely, but he laid out Leafs teammate James van Riemsdyk with a shot to the head.
Van Riemsdyk had to be brought to the locker room to be checked out, but did return to the game and managed to contribute to the final Leafs goal with an assist. However, it was too little, too late as the Sharks beat the Leafs 6-2. As for Phaneuf, he needs to be more accurate next time.
