Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Chris Withrow gave up the go-ahead run in the ninth inning of Friday night's game at Dodger Stadium against Arizona with a wild pitch...on an intentional walk.
In the top of the ninth with one out and a Diamondbacks pinch runner Tony Campana on third, Withrow had a 2-0 count on Martin Prado when the decision was made to intentionally walk him. Catcher Tim Federowics stood up and called for the ball to be thrown way outside, but Withrow managed to throw it high over his outstretched glove. The ball rolled into the backstop and Campana came home to give the D-backs a 2-1 lead. After Withrow walked another batter (which included a second wild pitch), he was taken out of the game.
Fortunately for Withrow, the Dodgers were able to bail him out by preventing the D-backs from scoring any more runs in the top of the ninth and tying the game in the bottom of the ninth. However, the D-backs won the game 4-2 in 12 innings.
