Erik Johnson races back to save empty net goal (Video)

Colorado Avalanche defenseman Erik Johnson racing back and made an incredible play to stop an empty net goal and save the game in the late stages of the third period during Thursday night's Western Conference playoff series opener against Minnesota.

The Avalanche were down 4-3 when they pulled their goalie for an extra skater with three minutes left in regulation. With the Avalanche pressing on the offensive end, Wild forward Jason Pominville backhanded the puck out of the zone towards the Avalanche empty net. Johnson scrambled back and initially appeared to have no chance to stop it, but somehow the puck slowed down enough that Johnson was able to knock it away just before it crossed the goal line.

Johnson's incredible save allowed Paul Stastny to score the tying goal with 13.4 seconds left and the game-winner for the Avalanche with 7:27 into overtime to stun the Wild with a 5-4 win.

Although Stastny was given the #1 star of the game, Johnson should be considered the hero for his unbelievable hustle play.
