Montreal Canadiens defenseman Andrei Markov speared Boston Bruins defenseman Zdeno Chara in the groin, and got away with it, during the final minute of Monday night's Game 6 of their NHL Eastern Conference playoff series.
The low blow came as Chara was going after Markov for tripping him and started a scrum between the teams. Ironically, Markov was not penalized for the trip or the spear, while Chara was penalized for slashing and roughing after the ensuing scrum.
Spearing has become a disturbing trend in this NHL postseason, and the league may want to look into dishing out heftier punishment if they want players to stop.
The Canadiens beat the Bruins 4-0, leading to a deciding Game 7 in Boston on Wednesday night.
