Nigeria goalkeeper Austin Ejide threw the ball into his own net during the first half of their international friendly soccer match against Scotland on Wednesday.
It happened in the 32nd minute of the match with Nigeria trailing 1-0. Ejide leaped up and caught the ball with both hands, but before he landed, he inexplicably threw the ball over his shoulder and into the net without looking. Authorities were already investigating the possibility that the match might be fixed, making Ejide's actions especially suspicious.
Interestingly enough, Ejide's own goal was nullified as Scotland’s Grant Hanley was called for a foul. However, Nigeria did manage to score an own goal during the second half of the game that may be looked into further as part of the investigation.
In the end, the match ended in a 2-2 draw.
