Philadelphia Phillies right fielder Marlon Byrd broke his bat despite not making contact with the ball during his sixth inning at-bat against the New York Mets on Sunday.
Byrd swung and missed on a 1-0 pitch, yet the barrel of his bat ended up about 80 feet away on the right side of the infield grass. Byrd couldn't help but laugh, while television announcers tried to speculate whether the bat was already broken or whether Byrd is really that strong.
Byrd received a new bat from the dugout and was able to finish the at-bat with it, despite striking out swinging.
