Boston Red Sox first baseman Mike Napoli called New York Yankees pitcher Masahiro Tanaka an "idiot" for throwing him a fastball that he hit over the fence for a game-winning solo home run in the ninth inning of Saturday's game in the Bronx.
Napoli's home run on a 1-2 pitch broke a 1-1 tie and would eventually give the Red Sox a 2-1 victory. After rounding the bases, Napoli was caught saying "What an idiot!" to several of his Red Sox teammates as he reached the dugout.
Tanaka finished the inning for the complete game, but his critical mistake to Napoli earned him the loss. However, it's a bit excessive to call Tanaka an "idiot" given his 11-3 record and 2.10 ERA so far this season.
