A little girl ran in front of the pitcher's mound and interrupted Washington Nationals pitcher Stephen Strasburg as he was beginning to deliver his first warmup pitch before Sunday's game against San Francisco.
The Nats had a group of kids join the players as they took the field, with one child accompanying each position player. Strasburg was about to throw his first warmup pitch when the girl who came onto the field with third baseman Anthony Rendon began running back to the nationals dugout, cutting across between home plate and the pitcher's mound. Fortunately, Strasburg was able to see her coming at the last second and stopped abruptly to let her by.
No one was hurt this time, but this was a really close call. Don't even want to think about what could have happened. The Nationals need to keep a tighter leash on these kids, or rethink the way they include them in the pregame ceremonies entirely.
