Washington Capitals goaltender Justin Peters whiffed on an attempt to clear the puck from behind his own net, leaving it open for St. Louis Blues forward David Backes to score an easy goal to open the third period of Saturday night's game at the Scottrade Center.
Peters made contact with the puck, but ended up hitting it right to Backes in front of the goal. Peters tried in vain to lay out for the puck, but Backes fired the perfect shot into the empty net.
Backes later added an assist as the Blues beat the Capitals 4-1.
