Arizona Coyotes center Martin Hanzal crushed Colorado Avalanche defenseman Erik Johnson with an elbow during Tuesday night's game in Glendale.
Johnson had his head down and was leaning forward as he took a shot on goal, which made him vulnerable as he never saw Hanzal coming. Hanzal's elbow made contact with Johnson's head with the check, and Johnson went face down onto the ice.
After being down on the ice for almost a minute, Johnson was able to skate off under his own power. Avs coach Patrick Roy reported after the game that Johnson was "doing well".
Once the game resumed, the Avalanche scored the game-winning goal for the 4-3 victory.
