Colorado Avalanche center Nathan MacKinnon was given a 5-minute major for boarding after catching Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Luke Schenn in the back with a crosscheck during the final minute of the first period in Saturday night's game at the Wells Fargo Center.
As Schenn was chasing the puck behind the Flyers net, MacKinnon put his stick in Schenn's back, sending Schenn flying into the boards. Schenn managed to keep his head away from the boards, but injured his left arm as he used it to cushion the impact and had to leave the game as a result.
After discussing the penalty, the officials gave MacKinnon a 5-minute major penalty instead of a minor, which made Avs coach Patrick Roy very angry. Roy's face turned completely red as he screamed at the officials, dropping at least one F-bomb by our count:
The penalty opened up the door for the Flyers, who scored two goals on the ensuing power play and went on to win the game 4-3.
