Seattle Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman used his time at his weekly Tuesday press conference to bash the NFL for its media policies as well as some hypocricy when it comes to their stances on sponsorship and player safety. Wide receiver Doug Baldwin joined Sherman on the podium while holding a life-size cardboard cutout of himself.
The incident that seemingly triggered Sherman's rant was the $100,000 fine assessed to teammate Marshawn Lynch earlier this month for not talking to the media. As a form of protest, Sherman apparently decided that he would use this week's time with the media as a creative outlet to air out his grievances with the NFL.
In addition to ripping the NFL's media policies, Sherman pointed out the irony in the fact that players are discouraged from endorsing alcohol and frowned upon for incidents of DUI, yet some of the NFL's biggest sponsors are beer companies. Sherman also took aim at the NFL's stance on player safety, noting how players on teams involved in Thanksgiving games (including the Seahawks) are playing two games in five days. However, Sherman didn't forget to drop the names of some of his personal sponsors, including Beats by Dre and Campbell's soup.
Something tells us the NFL may not take kindly to Sherman's comments and will penalize him accordingly, but Sherman probably feels better today after getting these things off his chest.
