St. Louis Blues captain David Backes took a puck to the face on a slap shot from teammate T.J. Oshie during the first period of Monday night's game against Florida.
Oshie's shot started out on a lower trajectory, but hit a Panthers defenseman and came up high. Backes had no chance to get out of the way and was hit right in the mouth.
Backes headed straight to the locker room after getting hit. According to the AP, Backes briefly returned in the second period with a cage protecting his face, but was in too much pain and left the game for good shortly afterwards.
The Blues won the game 4-2.
