New York Islanders captain John Tavares speared New Jersey Devils defenseman Marek Zidlicky in the groin during the final minutes of the third period in Monday night's game at the Nassau Coliseum.
Zidlicky had just knocked Tavares to the ice with a big hit and was skating back on defense when Tavares got back up and speared him in the crotch. Tavares was given a two-minute minor penalty for slashing.
In the end, the Islanders beat the Devils 3-2 in a shootout.
