In Dutch amateur soccer action Saturday from the Topklasse league, referee Wim Bronsvoort accidentally clotheslined Barendrecht midfielder Mitchell van Gastel in the second half of their tie against Scheveningen.
Bronsvoort put both arms out to indicate that play should continue just as Van Gastel was attempting to move past him for the ball. The end result was Van Gastel being knocked to the ground after being whacked in the face.
Van Gastel was taken off the pitch on a stretcher, and was later found to have suffered a broken nose. Talk about a painful injury - in more ways than one.
