NASCAR has announced that Nickelodeon will be sponsoring their May 9 Spring Cup Series race at Kansas Speedway, and the race will officially be known as the SpongeBob Squarepants 400.
This is not a joke.
According to the press release, "The SpongeBob SquarePants 400 ... will feature a weekend of Bikini Bottom-themed activities and fun for the entire family."
The Kansas Speedway Fan Zone will be converted into a Nickelodeon Kids Zone, which "will feature appearances from the SpongeBob SquarePants costumed characters, a SpongeBob SquarePants photo station and more."
Ironically enough, SpongeBob has attended Mrs. Puff's boating school since the earliest days of the cartoon's existence, but has failed the driving test too many times to count.
The race will be broadcast on FOX Sports 1. Can't wait to see what the trophy will look like.
