The fan made the decision to drop his beer even though he wasn't fighting with anyone else for the ball. That's a shame, because everyone knows beers at the ball park are expensive.
The phone fell out of the fan's pocket as he leaped the railing. He didn't realize it until a minute later, probably when someone tried to call him to tell him he was on TV.
