In Colorado high school baseball action, the Rye HS Thunderbolts defeated Hotchkiss 9-8 in their 2A state semifinal match, wrapping up the game with the old hidden ball trick.
In the final inning, Hotchkiss had the tying run on second base with two outs as Rye's plan went into action. Pitcher Luis Ortiz faked the throw to second, with the other fielders acting as though the ball sailed into center field. The runner was fooled and tried advancing to third, but was chased down by Ortiz, who had the ball all along. Ortiz applied the tag for the final out of the game.
Later that day, Rye went on to win the 2A state championship.
