Brandon Phillips took a strike while rubbing his eyes as he stepped out of the batter's box during his eighth inning at-bat in Thursday's Cincinnati Reds game at Pittsburgh.
Phillips called for time after Pirates pitcher Tony Watson had already began his delivery. The umpire did not grant the timeout, but Phillips stepped out so he could clear his eyes. The pitch was thrown right down for middle and the ump called it a strike.
Things worked out in the end, as Phillips hit the game-winning home run in the top of the 13th inning to give the Reds a 5-4 victory.
