Colorado Rockies shortstop Daniel Descalso made an impressive effort to sneak around a tag by St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Carlos Martinez in the fourth inning of Wednesday's game at Coors Field.
Martinez got a good jump on the chopper hit by Descalso, fielding it right along the first base line. Descalso knew he was toast, but backpedaled towards home plate to avoid the tag as long as possible. When Martinez finally moved in for the tag, Descalso tried to scoot by him but was unable to do so.
Too bad there are no style points for baserunning, because Descalso deserved something for his entertaining play.
