Seattle Mariners manager Lloyd McClendon delivered a tremendous tirade that drew a standing ovation from the fans at SafeCo field after being ejected from Wednesday night's game against the New York Yankees.
It happened in the top of the third with two outs after Yankees batter Alex Rodriguez checked his swing on a 3-2 pitch and first base umpire Will Little ruled that he didn't go around. It was the second walk of the inning that involved a close call that went against the Mariners, and catcher Mike Zunino lost it and began screaming at Little. Zunino was ejected while McClendon stepped in to argue the case with Little.
McClendon was ejected almost immediately, but he was not going to go away quietly, tossing his hat and kicked it down the first base line. McClendon walked to home plate to confront umpire Mike DiMuro about some of his calls, then jogged to third base to confront umpire Tony Randazzo about a separate check swing call before heading back to the dugout.
The Mariners fans certainly got their money's worth and showed their appreciation, as it was a great show.
