Will Middlebrooks lost his battle with the sun when he failed to come up with a catch on a foul popup during the seventh inning of Thursday's San Diego Padres game in San Francisco.
Middlebrooks was not wearing sunglasses, but did have the eye black on. Middlebrooks seemed to be in position for the popup, but bailed out at the last minute in order to protect himself once he became blinded and lost sight of the ball. Middlebrooks got his fingertips on the ball but was unable to make the grab.
As luck would have it, Giants batter Gregor Blanco would end up hitting a triple and knocking in a run. The Giants beat the Padres 13-8.
