Ben Payne lost the 2015 AJC Peachtree men’s open 10k in Atlanta on July 4th to former British Olympian Scott Overall in an exciting photo finish.
Payne thought he had a comfortable lead ahead of overall in the final stretch and began to celebrate, not realizing that Overall was running at full speed to catch him at the finish line.
According to race organizers, this was believed to be the first photo finish in the history of the race. Overall was declared the winner by one second with an official time of 29:30.
The Peachtree 10K is the world's largest 10K race, with 60,000 runners registered to participate.
