San Francisco Giants pitcher Chris Heston fired a pickoff throw to first base, but found no one covering the bag during the third inning of Monday night's game against the New York Mets.
With two outs and a runner on first, Brandon Belt had shifted back away from first base, so clearly a miscommunication on someone's part. You don't see that too often at the major league level.
Heston was charged with an error, but he got the next batter out, so in the end, no harm, no foul.
