Texas Rangers infielder Elvis Andrus whacked New York Yankees shortstop Didi Gregorius in the groin while sliding into second base during Thursday night's game in Arlington.
With Andrus on first, Gregorius came over to cover second on a routine grounder. Instead of sliding into second with his spikes up, Andrus slid in with his arms up, while Gregorius had to leap up in an attempt to catch a high throw which went over his head, leading to the impromptu "cup check":
Fortunately, Gregorius was wearing a cup, which he confirmed after the game:
You never know what can happen in a baseball game. That's why you should always wear a cup.
H/T NIS.
