Chicago Cubs pitcher Jon Lester finally got the monkey off his back with his first career hit during the second inning of Monday night's game against St. Louis.
Lester hit a ground ball up the middle bounced off the foot of Cardinals pitcher John Lackey and kicked slowly towards short. The Cards infielders had no chance to get a throw off in time.
Lester's teammates, and the fans, gave him a standing ovation for the single, which ended his record 0-for-66 hitless streak to start his career.
Lester also pitched a no-hitter into the seventh inning, but gave up two runs in the seventh and took the loss. The Cardinals beat the Cubs 6-0.
