Washington Nationals manager Matt Williams was booed by frustrated fans as he wrapped up a postgame press conference following Tuesday night's loss to the New York Mets.
The Nationals knocked Mets ace Matt Harvey out of the game with an inside-the-park home run in the sixth inning to take a 7-1 lead. However, the Nats bullpen completely blew it, giving up the entire lead in the top of the seventh and a go-ahead solo home run in the eighth to hand the Mets an 8-7 victory.
Nationals fans had high expectations heading into the season, as the team was one of the favorites to win the World Series. However, after Tuesday night's loss, the Mets extended their division lead over the Nationals to 6 games, putting the Nats in danger of being completely left out of the postseason.
With this massive underachievement coming on the heels of last year's disppointing playoff run, you can understand why Nationals fans are upset. With Williams at the helm for both seasons, he becomes the easy target, and if the front office feels the same way as the fans do, he might be the one to take the fall in the end.
