Sporting KC defender Saad Abdul-Salaam was stunned after missing a penalty shot that hit both posts but somehow stayed out of the net during a dramatic shootout that decided Thursday night's MLS Western Conference knockout round match against Portland.
The television announcer summed it up best: "Es increĆble!"
After being locked in a 2-2 draw at the end of extra time, the match was decided by what will likely go down as the greatest shootout in MLS history. Portland won the shootout 7-6, with a record 22 players attempted penalty kicks. It all came down to the goalkeepers, with Portland's KC's Adam Kwarasey making his shot and Jon Kempin missing his.
