Boston Bruins center Zac Rinaldo was ejected from Wednesday night's game against Philadelphia for a brutalizing hit on Flyers center Sean Couturier.
It happened right at the end of the first period as Couturier was against the boards trying to clear the puck from the Flyers defensive end. Couturier felt Bruins defenseman Adam Rinaldo right behind him but didn't see Rinaldo coming. Rinaldo went up high into Couturier's head and laid him out.
Couturier skated off the ice under his own power, but did not return to the game. Rinaldo was given a charging penalty and a game misconduct, and may be given supplemental discipline by the league after they review the play.
Ironically, the Bruins scored a shorthanded goal in the second period to take a 3-2 lead as Brett Connolly served Rinaldo's time for charging. However, the Flyers came back in the end to win the game in overtime 5-4.
