Ohio State Buckeyes junior defensive end Joey Bosa was ejected from Friday's Fiesta Bowl against Notre Dame after being called for a targeting penalty.
It happened at the 5:26 mark of the first quarter as Bosa knocked down Notre Dame quarterback DeShone Kizer after he threw the ball downfield. Bosa clearly dropped his head and used the crown of his helmet to make contact with Kizer's chest. Bosa was called for a personal foul on the play, and the targeting call was confirmed with a replay review.
People will argue whether targeting warrants an ejection from the game, but that's a discussion for another day. For now, the rules are the rules, so Bosa was ejected.
As Bosa is expected to go pro as one of the top prospects in the upcoming NFL draft, the targeting penalty effectively ends his college career.
UPDATE: Prior to halftime, Bosa used his time alone in the locker room not only to reflect, but to send out an apology to Ohio State fans via Twitter:
