Oregon State senior forward Jarmal Reid completely lost his head and intentionally tripped a referee during the second half of Sunday's Pac-12 game against Utah.
It happened with less than three minutes left in a tie game after Reid was knocked to the floor by Utah's Jakob Poeltl while trying to dribble up the court. When no foul was called, Reid clearly became angry, and then he saw referee Tommy Nunez jogging up the court. Somehow, Reid thought that sticking his leg out and tripping Nunez would help his cause. Bad idea.
Needless to say, Reid was given a flagrant two and was ejected from the game. Reid probably thought that no one would notice, but the trip was caught on camera for the world to see. This is not a good look.
According to The Dagger, Oregon State was called for 24 personal fouls in the game, compared to only 10 on Utah. This may have caused Oregon State to feel a bit slighted by the officiating, but that is not an excuse for trying to cause physical harm to a referee. That's one of those things that you would expect to be common knowledge, but Reid could apparently use a reminder, which will likely come in the form of a suspension for the next game or two.
