Jared Allen announced his retirement from the NFL on Thursday, and Detroit Lions backup quarterback Dan Orlovsky will always have his own special memory of him.
It was October 12, 2008, as Orlovsky made his first NFL start against the Minnesota Vikings. His stats were not particularly noteworthy, as he completed 12 of 21 passes for 150 yards with one touchdown and no turnovers. However, in the first quarter, while being chased by a charging Jared Allen, Orlovsky lost track of where he was and ran out of the back of the end zone for a safety.
Adding insult to injury, the play ended up making the difference in the game as the Vikings beat the Lions 12-10.
Fortunately, Orlovsky seems to have gotten over it, as he used Allen's announcement as an opportunity to pay tribute to him while looking back on that play and laughing at himself at the same time.
