West Bromwich midfielder (and vice-captain) Chris Brunt was hit in the face by a coin thrown by one of his own fans following Saturday's 3-1 loss against Reading in the FA Cup quarterfinals.
Brunt was walking to a section of West Brom fans to give his shirt away when, as he was taking it off, he was struck by the coin just below his eye.
Naturally, Brunt was angry and he approached the crowd in an attempt to find out who threw the coin, but to no avail. Brunt had this to say after the incident:
"I was walking towards our supporters and they thought it was OK to throw a coin at their own players. I'm disgusted."
We hope the culprit is found and punished appropriately. There is no place for throwing objects at sporting events under any circumstances.
