Jay Beagle finds opponent's stick caught in helmet (Video)

Jay Beagle stick caught in helmet

Washington Capitals center Jay Beagle found himself in an awkward position Thursday night when an opposing player's stick got caught inside his helmet visor.

It happened late in the second period as the Capitals took on Pittsburgh in Game 1 of their NHL second round playoff series. Beagle banged into Penguins defenseman Kris Letang along the boards and somehow skated away with his stick, with the top of it sticking through his visor. After failing to pull it out the bottom or push it out through the top, Beagle had no choice but to head to the bench to get some help.

Fortunately there was a brief break in the action, so Beagle didn't miss any time. It would have made for some interesting hockey if the puck had come to him while the stick was still lodged inside his helmet, although the rules clearly state it is illegal to play with two sticks. We can laugh about it now because Beagle wasn't hurt on the play, but he was really lucky not to be injured.

The Capitals won the game in overtime 4-3 to take a 1-0 series lead.
