Sporting KC's obvious own goal missed by MLS officials (Video)

An own goal by Sporting KC that was obvious to everyone in the stands and at home was missed by MLS officials during Sunday's game against FC Dallas.

It happened in the 15th minute as defenseman Lawrence Olum made a pass back to goalkeeper Tim Melia, who was playing up and clearly wasn't expecting it.

Melia scrambled to kick the ball out of the net, but as the replay clearly shows, the ball was across the line by about a foot by the time he got there.

However, the officials missed it, and since there is no replay in the MLS, Sporting KC got away with it. They went on to win the game 2-1.

As far as the MLS adopting goal-line technology for plays like this, they had a chance to do it a few years ago but decided that it was too expensive. Hopefully they will reconsider that decision sometime soon. This is the 21st century, and there's no reason why clearly bad calls like this shouldn't be reversed.
