Both teams rushed out to the mound, but no punches were thrown. Ramirez was ejected for the pitch. The incident was the culmination of tension that was building up over the course of the game.
It started in the fifth when Braves starter Julio Teheran threw a high brushback pitch that sent Fernandez to the ground. Fernandez got his revenge in the bottom of the sixth by hitting Braves batter Nick Markakis in the right hip with a pitch. That led to Ramirez going headhunting with Fernandez. Here is video of how the events transpired:
Interestingly, Fernandez went out of his way to make peace with some of the Braves players, including Markakis and Braves catcher Tyler Flowers, explaining his side of the story.
The Marlins beat the Braves 7-5.
