Vancouver Canucks forward Jake Virtanen got away with slamming Carolina Hurricanes center Joakim Nordstrom's head into the boards during Sunday night's NHL game at Rogers Arena.
It happened in the third period after a shoulder-to-shoulder hit by Virtanen knocked Nordstrom off his feet. As Nordstrom's momentum carried him into the boards, Virtanen took his hand and shoved Nordstrom's head into the boards. It happened right next to a linesman who was looking the other way. Totally unnecessary.
No penalty was called on the play. Nordstrom was able to stay in the game. The Canucks beat the Hurricanes 4-3 in OT.
