Now here's one we haven't seen before: Texas Rangers third baseman Adrian Beltre was ejected from Wednesday night's game against Florida for moving the on-deck circle.
It happened in the eighth inning as Beltre was warming up about five feet outside the on-deck circle, a bit closer to home plate. Marlins pitcher Drew Steckenrider apparently felt Beltre was distracting him and asked umpire Gerry Davis to tell Beltre to stand in the circle. Instead of moving into the circle, however, Beltre apparently thought it might be funny to simply drag the rubber on-deck circle to the spot where he wanted to stand. Davis was not amused, and he tossed Beltre out of the game.
Rangers manager Jeff Bannister came out of the dugout to argue Beltre's ejection, and Bannister himself was tossed. Here is a full replay of both ejections from another angle that focuses on Davis:
The Ranger fans who stayed late to see Beltre hit again were cheated because Davis had to prove his authority. No one pays money to see the umpires.
The Marlins beat the Rangers 22-10.
H/T LBS.

I had never seen someone ejected for dragging an on-deck circle so thank you Adrian Beltre pic.twitter.com/8Trb8dbjN7— Dave Lozo (@davelozo) July 27, 2017

Adrian Beltre was told to move into the on-deck circle, so he moved the on-deck circle over to him and was ejected for it pic.twitter.com/PfYIxlFkCo— MLB Insider Dinger (@atf13atf) July 27, 2017
