Buffalo Sabres left winger Evander Kane went down after taking a stick to the face during the first period of Tuesday's NHL Winter Classic against the New York Rangers.
It was a double-whammy for Kane, who was already off-balance after losing his edge as he was chasing the puck into the corner of the Rangers defensive end. Rangers center Mika Zibanejad got to the puck first and swung his stick a bit high as he was clearing it, and in the process he smacked Kane in the face.
No penalty was called on the play, although there probably should have been. The Rangers beat the Sabres 3-2 in overtime.
