Los Angeles Angels second baseman Ian Kinsler lost track of the count while on the basepaths during Sunday's MLB exhibition game against the L.A. Dodgers, but things worked out in his favor.
It happened in the bottom of the sixth inning after Kinsler doubled to left field with one out. After Mike Trout struck out looking, Justin Upton swung and missed on a 1-1 pitch. Kinsler thought it was a strikeout to end the inning, so he casually jogged to third base. Dodgers catcher Yasmani Grandal was ready to throw to third, but held onto the ball.
Once Kinsler got to third, he took off his batting helmet and was about to hand it to the third base coach and walk to the dugout. Kinsler was puzzled at first when he was told to stay at third, but once he realized he had just stolen a base accidentally, he couldn't help but laugh. Sometimes it's better to be lucky than good.
Kinsler failed to score from third as Upton eventually did strike out swinging. The Dodgers beat the Angels 4-2.
