New York Yankees third baseman Miguel Andujar got some help from a fan on a fly ball during the fourth inning of Saturday's game against the New York Mets.
Andujar hit a fly ball to deep right field which was out of reach of Mets right fielder Brandon Nimmo, who was looking to play the bounce as the ball came a few feet short of clearing the wall. However, a rogue fan reached over with his glove and snagged the ball out of the air.
There was no doubt about the fan interference, as everyone could see clear as day what happened. This was even more obvious than that classic Jeffrey Mayer play back in Game 1 of the 1996 ALCS. The fan was proud of himself, but fans are usually warned before the game about interfering with balls in play. There's a good chance that this fan was kicked out of the stadium, or at least was moved out of the front row to another section.
Andujar was awarded a ground rule double, which he might have had anyway without the fan interference. Andujar finished 3-for-4, with two doubles and that RBI, as the Yankees beat the Mets 7-6.
