The New York Mets lost Monday night's game in San Francisco after a collision between two fielders led to a dropped popup that allowed the winning run to score.
It happened in the 13th inning with two outs Giants runners on first and third as the score was tied at 1-1. Giants batter Brandon Crawford hit a popup to short left field that should have ended the inning. Mets shortstop Amed Rosario called for it as he backed into left field to make the catch. However, left fielder Dominic Smith came in hard for the ball and apparently never saw or heard Rosario. As a result, Smith collided with Rosario just as the ball landed in his glove, knocking Rosario to the ground and causing the ball to pop out.
The Giants runner scored from third, effectively handing the Giants the 2-1 victory.
That's so Mets. You expect to see this in Little League. You don't expect this to happen at the professional level. Yet another embarrassing moment for this team that has had many of them this year.
