San Jose Sharks goaltender Aaron Dell got away with spearing Calgary Flames center Sam Bennett during the third period of Monday night's NHL game at the Scotiabank Saddledome.
It happened with about 13 minutes remaining in the third period as the Flames held an 8-4 lead. Dell was clearly having a frustrating game and let loose by giving Bennett a big whack in the midsection with his stick as he was skating in front of the crease.
Bennett went down right away, but somehow the spear by Dell went completely undetected by the officials. How did they miss that?
After a whistle a few seconds later, Bennett got into Dell's face to stick up for himself, but the officials quickly broke it up.
In the end, the Flames beat the Sharks 8-5.
